Redken Color Extend Magnetics Duo

Properly taking care of your hair can be a tedious task, especially when you don’t have the resources to do so. However, investing your time and hard earned money into luxe haircare products will pay off… eventually! Unfortunately, I had to learn it the hard way. You may or not know that I’m colouring my hair and I’m doing it DIY-way. I’ve been doing it for the past 4 years and I have some horrific stories to share but I’ll leave those for another post. Colouring your hair at home on your own can be a dreadful thought for some. For me – it is an inevitable one. I can’t afford to splurge a couple of hundred pounds (yes, that’s how much it will cost in the UK!) for a salon appointment each month. I know, I know, I should leave my hair in peace for at least 6 weeks after each dye extravaganza! However, after I’ve started taking my biotin gels my hair has been growing with the speed of light and I need a touch-up every 4 weeks, otherwise, I end up with the ‘zebra’ effect!

In any case, whether you’re using a drugstore dye or going to a salon to have your hair dyed, you have to take care of that colour. Up until 3 months ago I was failing to do so i.e. I was throwing whatever shampoo and conditioner onto my hair and pray for the best! Stupidly, I refused to believe that there are products that will prevent my hair colour from fading and keep it as ‘fresh’ as the first day I dyed it. As it turned out, there are certain products that will extend that colour and maybe, just maybe, will give you extra 2 weeks before you feel the need of a touch-up. The products I want to talk about today are Redken Color Extend Magnetics Shampoo and Redken Color Extend Magnetics Conditioner.

Redken Color Extend Magnetics Shampoo

I’ve always wanted to try Redken, but I could never justify the amount of hard cash I had to spend for the quantity I was going to get. However, after I tried other products and saw no difference in terms of colour extension, I thought I should finally invest in good quality colour-maintenance products. After many reviews, hours of research and calculating how many Oh Yeah protein bars I could have bought for the same price, I finally gave up. With shaky hands, I’ve put in my debit card details and bought the Redken Color Extend Magnetics Duo for just under £50. Thankfully, they are 1L each and come with the pumps. I read a lot of reviews with people complaining that there is no pump and they were wasting product. For this reason, I did my research and the deal from Amazon is the best one available!

The Redken Color Extend Magnetics Shampoo is thick in consistency and not lightweight at all. Redken says it’s lightweight but it’s not. It’s heavy and thick as a natural set yoghurt, hence you need a pump. The other thing that Redken claim is the richness of the lather their shampoo gives. There is little-to-none when I apply it onto my hair. On the other hand, it is sulfate-free and contains amino-ions to help seal the colour. The smell is superb! It is something between candy and lavender but I might be wrong. I can’t be trusted with odour-related activities. Long story short, I used the Redken Color Extend Magnetics Shampoo for the past 3 months and there is a huge difference in terms of colour extension. Not only the hair dye looks ‘fresh’, but my hair is super soft and vibrant. Moreover, I haven’t even used half of the bottle, so £25 has been spent more than well!

Redken Color Extend Magnetics Conditioner

The Redken Color Extend Magnetics Conditioner had won the 2014 Latina Beauty Awards Winner for Best Conditioner for Color Treated Hair. I couldn’t agree more with this award! The consistency is more or less the same as the shampoo, so is the smell. In terms of extending my colour-treated hair, it has done its job. Yet I’m more excited about the overall nourishment effect it has given my hair. The protein complex has given my hair a very soft and smooth feel. After I started using the Redken conditioner, I’ve experienced fewer tangles and split ends! The latter might be because I’m finally taking proper care of my hair, nevertheless, I’m a happy bunny.

Would I recommend the Redken Color Extend Magnetics Duo for colour-threated hair? Yes, definitely! No matter how you’re colouring your hair – DIY with a drugstore hair dye or salon wise, you need to use hair care products that will prevent the colour from fading. Otherwise, you’re just pouring money down the drain. The Redken Color Extend Magnetics range is the absolute crème de la crème you can give your colour-threated hair. Yes, it’s expensive but the quality is more than exceeding expectations. At the end of the day, it is your hair and you want to wash and treat it with the best products available.

If you don’t want to get the 1L bottles, just try out the smaller ones. The Redken Colour Extend Magnetic Shampoo (300ml) is discounted at the moment on Lookfantastic for just under £10. The Redken Colour Extend Magnetic Conditioner (250ml) is also on offer for just under £11. So, save some money and splurge them on Redken, you won’t regret it!
