New York Fashion Week SS19 Highlights

Who’s ready for a fashion roundup? Personally, I feel like New York Fashion Week SS19 has seriously upped its game compared to the previous year. NYFW wants to be relevant and has the appetite to succeed at every cost. Here’s a quick roundup and highlights from New York Fashion Week SS19:

  • Badgley Mischka showed what a fashionable ostrich would look like. Although I dislike ostriches due to their enormous bodies and actual ability to kill, taking inspiration from them is always a good idea. My personal favourite was a beautiful white silk-like floral dress with spaghetti straps and an ostrich type of feathers towards the end.
  • Camilla & Mark somehow made a tailored suit with over-the-knee leather boots to look super trendy when combined with your old Kappa track top jacket. Well, I don’t know if they used Kappa as an inspiration but you get the picture.
  • Carolina Herrera had a piece that made me think of different cultures and their national costumes. It looked like she took inspiration from a traditional costume and took a 21st-century spin on it by making a checked patterned skirt look super trendy with a high thigh split, beautiful white lace top and light brown suede cowboy boots with floral details.
  • Does denim always have to be boring and plain?! No! At least not to Christian Cowan, who decided to design a half and half denim set – your usual light denim material was covering one part of the body whilst a very colourful denim material was covering the other part.
  • Bright neon colours from Christian Siriano at New York Fashion Week SS19.
  • Remember Cushnie et Ochs? Well, it’s only Cushnie now and she did her debut with a beautiful Tiffany colour bodycon dress covered with sparkly mesh details.
  • Dennis Basso showed us that sometimes simple is better. Black sewed flowers were making a statement on a pure white flary dress.
  • Summer is gone but we can always look forward to the next one and Haney made sure to keep our summer feels alive with a light mustardy jumpsuit that at first glance has a simple pattern but a second look will reveal an animal pattern an I don’t mean spots or stripes.
  • Mendel gave me all The Great Gatsby feels with salmon sequin dress embroidered with flowers and finished with a faux fur (hopefully!) bolero jacket.
  • Jeremy Scott did what Jeremy Scott does best – matched weird colourful combinations with sparkling alien-like shoes?
  • Jonathan Simkhai showed us all once again how we can all look elegant and fashionable at NYFW SS19 with a beautiful lace off-the-shoulders top and sporty white trousers.
  • I haven’t heard of Laura Garcia or maybe she never stood out for me but her simple yet very charming checked short pants and bomber-sleeved shirt made office workwear look sexy.
  • A western inspired look from Longchamp at New York Fashion Week SS19. Fringe tassels were key elements on dresses and boots.
  • Mara Hoffman made a floral maxi dress stand out (not that it needed any help!) with a bulky dark brown leather belt at the waist.
  • Another sequined floral embroidered piece at New York Fashion Week SS19 but this time from Naeem Khan in the form of a jumpsuit with a very revealing V-neck cut.
  • Apart from the fact that the photoshoot was apparently done in a dessert, I’m pretty sure Nanushka and Sandra Sandor would still give me those feels just by looking at her creations.
  • Another ostrich inspiration from Oscar de la Renta and Pamela Roland? I’m not sure why I think of ostriches when I see dresses covered in feathers but I’ll take them both. Thanks!
  • A very cute off-the-shoulder number from Robert Rodriguez at New York Fashion Week SS19.
  • Florals – again! This time the white maxi dress with florals features and a bulky red belt has been designed by Sachin & Babi. Not saying I’m getting bored by this trend but spring and summer can be associated with a lot more than flowers.
  • I love Sally LaPointe and her sweaters that always feature a fluff or two sewed in them. She didn’t disappoint at NYFW SS19.
  • Self-Portrait had an interesting number with a deep V-neck and embroidery but what stood out were the socks that dress was matched with!
  • Tadashi Joshi reminded me of my prom dress with beautiful long dress overflowing in different shades of purple and lilac.
  • Snake patterns and bodycon skirts. What more could you want from Tom Ford’s piece?
  • Ulla Johnson decided to focus on craft and threadwork at New York Fashion Week SS19 and that could be seen throughout the whole collection.
  • Another off-the-shoulder masterpiece by Zac Posen. The black dress made me think of Monica Bellucci and her role in Malèna.
  • Zimmermann delivered once again and the choice of choosing just one piece was extremely hard but I hope I’ve made a good one!
