The Best Celine Bags Dupes On The Market

Celine has been known not only for its gorgeous ready-to-wear line but also for Celine Vipiana’s invest-worthy handbags! Although the French company has been around since 1945, it was Phoebe Philo that made the Celine bags and accessories must-have items. Phoebe created three bag lines – ‘Cabas’, ‘Luggage’ and ‘Classic’. Each line has its easily identifiable shape and a minimalist kind of structuralism. Nowadays, Celine handbags are considered a massive investment and celebrities all over the world have the it-bag in their wardrobe. However, the smallest Celine belt bag can cost as much as $900 while the ‘Luggage’ can hit $3000. Although some people could probably afford the famous it-bag, most of us will struggle with finding the budget to invest in a Celine piece. Gladly, the fashion industry is more than generous when it comes to leather goods dupes!

The Celine History

Founded in 1945 by Celine Vipiana, Celine is a French ready-to-wear and leather luxury goods brand. It has been owned by LVMH group since 1996. However, Mrs Vipiana didn’t start her business as a high-fashion womenswear brand. Alongside her husband, Richard, they founded the first luxury made-to-measure children’s shoe business. It wasn’t until 1960 when the brand decided to put more focus on a ready-to-wear fashion for women with a, wait for it, sportswear approach. Moreover, it offered a range of leather goods such as clothes, bags, loafers and gloves. In 1964, the launch of a new fragrance called ‘Vent fou’ and the new ‘American Sulky’ collection of accessories gained success. It was then when Celine decided to open a leather goods factory in Florence.

Up until 1973, the red elephant created by Raymont Peynet was the brand’s logo but it got a re-design and the intertwined ‘C’ Sulky canvas, linked to the Arc-de-Triomphe, became Celine’s new logo. In 1996 the French brand became part of LVMH group for $540 million. The following year Michael Kors was named the first ever women’s ready-to-wear designer, bringing modern femininity with a luxurious spirit. Kors left in 2004 to focus on his own brand and the Italian designer Roberto Menichetti was named as creative director. After many disappointments, Phoebe Philo became Celine’s creative director in 2008. She brought the brand back on its feet with her ‘cool minimal trend’, as described by Vogue Magazine and won two fashion awards before leaving in December 2017. In January 2018, Hedi Slimane took her position and extended the brand’s offerings with the launch of men’s fashion, couture and fragrances.

The Celine Bags Range

As mentioned above, it was the British designer Phoebe Philo that brought back Celine on its feet and made it relevant again. During her reign, Philo launched a slew of now-iconic bags – the ‘Trapeze’, ‘Classic’, ‘Luggage’ and ‘Cabas’ styles. Out of these styles, the most iconic one has always been the Celine Luggage Tote. Combining functionality and fashion-forward thinking, its unique silhouette makes it instantly recognisable. The design features a large roomy square body that widens slightly towards the top with a zip top opening and double top handles. Furthermore, the iconic tote includes the signature wave leather piping on the front, the external zip pocket and flap out winged sides. Some special tricolour pieces even include calf hair finishing.

The modern-day Celine Luggage Tote comes in five sizes – Nano, Micro, Mini, Shoulder and Phantom. Opt for a larger size for your everyday needs and if you’re in need of some extra space. If you can’t fill your Luggage tote, then go for a Nano Luggage – often described as the most practical and functional of all. All Celine bags come in different patterns and colours. Some styles feature solid-coloured leather, available in both sleek and bright shades as well as neutral and soft tones.

Among the Luggage styles, Celine also offers a wide range of other styles. In 2011 the ‘Trio Bag’ was introduced. The bag comes in both large and small sizes and features three separate compartments. Another functional Celine bag is the ‘Trotteur’ – the brand’s iconic cross-body bag with a unique buckle closure. If elegance is what you’re seeking, then get yourself the Celine ‘Box Bag’ – its structured and minimalist design makes it the perfect evening accessory.
